ENON VALLEY, Pa. -- A woman trying to shoot a stray cat accidentally shot her neighbor in the head. Pennsylvania State Police said Christopher Rimoldi, 22, of Old Enon-Unity Road was hit on the top of his head at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on his property. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. Police said Rimoldi was expected to be released Wednesday and did not have life-threatening injuries. No charges are pending against the neighbor at this time, police said.
Bridge-work alert
YOUNGSTOWN -- Students, families and visitors planning to attend spring commencement at Youngstown State University on Saturday should be advised that access to the campus from the north will be somewhat limited due to bridge reconstruction. The Elm Street bridge is closed and the Fifth Avenue bridge is reduced from four- to two-lane traffic. The bridge work is part of a $7.5 million state project to refurbish six bridges over the Madison Avenue Expressway along the northern fringe of the campus.
MS fund-raising walk
CANFIELD -- About 600 area residents are expected to participate in the 2006 Christopher and Banks Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Mahoning Valley on Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road. The check-in time for walkers is 9 a.m. The official start time is 10 a.m. Walkers, who collect pledges to help fund programs and services for more than 15,000 Ohio residents living with MS and to fund MS-related medical research, choose from a four-mile route and a two-mile short route around the Canfield Fairgrounds. Hearing rescheduled
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The preliminary hearing for a man accused of beating his wife to death and then setting her parents' home on fire with her body inside has been rescheduled. Pennsylvania State Police said Scott Dunn's defense attorney has asked that the hearing be rescheduled for next month. Dunn was to appear Wednesday before District Justice Lawrence Silvis at the Grove City Municipal Building. The date of the hearing will be set later this week. Police arrested Scott Dunn last month in the January death of his wife, Brandon, who was known as Brandi.
Minority Health Forum
LIBERTY -- A Minority Health Forum, "Get Real About Health Issues," will be Saturday at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, 1620 Motor Inn Drive. EMA director rehired
LISBON -- Columbiana County commissioners have rehired Timothy R. Long of Wellsville as the deputy director of the county's Emergency Management Agency. Long originally was hired in 2005 but left earlier this year to work at the federal prison in Elkton. Long's replacement quit for personal reasons. The commissioners said Wednesday they needed someone for the post quickly because of a scheduled test in June of the county's disaster response plan. The EMA would respond in case of a problem at the First Energy Nuclear Operations Co., which runs a nuclear power plant in Shippingport, Pa.
