Plant sale provides funds for many projects



Area horticulture-related projects are supported by club.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Men's Garden Club of Youngstown will sponsor its annual plant sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the MASCO Workshop greenhouse, corner of South Avenue and Bev Road, Boardman.
Proceeds will help fund the club's wide variety of horticulture-related projects, among them:
Providing a $1,000 scholarship to a student in a related horticulture secondary school.
Participating in five $1,000 scholarships presented through the national affiliation.
Donating to Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks.
Assisting Streetscape by providing plants and assistance in landscaping downtown Youngstown.Serving as a conduit for grant money and donating monies and plants to many valley horticulture projects.
Members are associated with OSU Extension and Mill Creek Park Master Gardener programs, and serve with Jubilee Gardens Inc. and Mill Creek Park and Children Veggie Program.
The organization also sponsors seminar programs, plants trees on Arbor Day and promotes the saving of horticultural plant species. Members assist PBS and WYSU during fundraising drives and participate in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
The club meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of most months at Fellows Riverside Gardens, in June and August at Boardman Park, and in December at A La Cart Catering in Canfield for a Christmas dinner.
