Man robbed of $100
AUSTINTOWN -- A Woodhurst Drive man told police he was robbed outside his apartment at 5 a.m. Tuesday. The robber asked him for a ride to Kirk Road. When the victim said he wasn't going that way, the robber pulled out a handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over $100 in cash, and the robber ran away toward Burkey Road. The victim got into his car and tried to follow the robber but lost him in backyards, a police report shows.
Driver killed in crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- The cause of a deadly one-car crash at Glenwood and Laclede avenues around 2 a.m. Tuesday remains under investigation, said Detective Sgt. Robert Deichman. The victim's name was not immediately available. Deichman said the driver, a man in his late 20s, was dead at the scene after being ejected when his car struck the curb and rolled over.
Gunman robs business
BOARDMAN -- A robber took nearly $5,000 at gunpoint from a South Avenue business. Employees and a customer at Advance America told police that a man wearing a long, curly black wig entered the business around 5:30 p.m. Monday, drew a handgun and demanded money. The two employees gave him money from the registers, and he ordered them at gunpoint back to the safe, which he emptied. The man, described as 20 to 30 years old, then directed the employees and customer to lie on the floor as he left the store. A witness outside the business said he saw the man head north on foot.
CVS pharmacy robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two shift supervisors at the CVS pharmacy on Oak Street told police they were robbed at gunpoint around 9 p.m. Monday. The store's video surveillance recorded the holdup at the East Side business. The robber took about $180 and ran west toward Himrod Avenue.
Girl says she was groped
YOUNGSTOWN -- A report of gross sexual imposition at The Rayen School is being investigated by city police and the school, said Ted Terlesky, chief of schools security. A 17-year-old girl said she was groped in a stairwell on Monday. The Dudley Avenue girl told police she stayed in a bathroom rather than go to a morning class and was grabbed as she walked down steps. The girl was expelled for three days for skipping the class. She didn't report the alleged attack until she got home.
Items to be recycled
LISBON -- People can take their aluminum cans, newspapers, plain paper and cardboard -- but not glass or plastic -- to the Columbiana County Career & amp; Technical Center for recycling from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Signs will be posted to direct people to the WFR lab, where students will help unload the material. Acquitted in homicide
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Ben Frank Jones III was acquitted on homicide, robbery and conspiracy charges after a trial in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. A jury did find the New Castle man guilty of a firearms charge after deliberating Monday. Jones, 26, was arrested in February 2003 and charged in the Jan. 31 death of Russell McKee, 39, of Chartes Street. Police said Jones and another man tried to rob McKee before shooting him on the city's south side. The second suspect, Telly Armstrong, 29, is awaiting trial.
