SteelHounds
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown SteelHounds general manager Joe Gregory announced the team has hired Chad Meyer to be the new "Voice of the SteelHounds" beginning with the 2006-07 season. Bob Hoffman, the team's broadcaster last season, has been named assistant general manager.
Meyer managed the team's press box last season and served as the club's game night media contact. The Ashland University graduate will serve several functions within the SteelHounds organization as the team's broadcaster as well as serving as an account executive focusing on group and season tickets.
The SteelHounds begin their second season in the CHL in October. Season tickets are on sale by calling (330) 747-PUCK.

Boardman's Mallisto Notre Dame College
SOUTH EUCLID -- Boardman High senior Colleen Mallis has signed a NAIA letter of intent to play basketball at Notre Dame College.
Mallis was a three-year varsity point guard for the Spartans. She averaged 10 points and two rebounds per game and was named All-Federal League honorable mention.
She plans to major in education.
All-PAC baseball
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Bethany senior Aaron Meadows (Wellsville) was named All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first team in baseball.
His teammate, Rich Majewski, was named second team.
Four Thiel players were named. Senior DH Mark Nightingale's (East Liverpool) was named first team, while second team honors went to senior third baseman Bob Flukas, senior outfielder Brett Bell (Badger) and freshman outfielder Dan Morrison (Maplewood).
Mercer Raceway
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Raceway Park will be back in action Friday night with the "Return of Modzilla" featuring the BRP Tour for the Big-Block Modifieds plus the 358 Small-Block Modifieds, the E-Mods, Stock Cars, and Strictly Stocks. Times will be 30 minutes later than usual with racing getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
Youth bowling
AUSTINTOWN -- The annual meeting of the United States Bowling Congress' Youngstown youth association will be Thursday at Wedgewood Lanes.
All sanctioned youth over the age of 14 are invited, along with parents, coaches, proprietors and youth board members. A current sanction card is necessary for attendance. The agenda at the event at 7:30 p.m. will include voting for officers and directors of the youth board.
Miller is judge
MINERAL RIDGE -- Tom Miller was a judge last Friday as Antonio Escalante of Mexico defeated Juan Ruiz of California for the WBO/NABO junior featherweight championship in Chicago. It was the 37th title for Miller who is sanctioned by the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, USBA, NABF U.S.A. boxing associations.

OSU has two night games scheduled
COLUMBUS -- The Big Ten announced a preliminary slate of six televised football games for this fall, including a night game for Ohio State when it travels to Iowa.
The Buckeyes will play at Iowa Sept. 30 in an 8 p.m. start. They also will host Minnesota Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be shown on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
Ohio State also confirmed that the Buckeyes' game at Texas Sept. 9 is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start. The Michigan at Ohio State game Nov. 18 will likely kick off early in the afternoon.
Ohio State opens its 117th season of intercollegiate football on Sept. 2 at home against Northern Illinois.
Indians moves
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians activated pitcher Rafael Betancourt from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and optioned pitcher Jeremy Guthrie back to Triple-A Buffalo. Betancourt had been sidelined since straining a muscle in his upper back in Baltimore on April 19.
Betancourt had a 6.43 ERA in eight appearances before being injured. Guthrie had no record and a 4.63 ERA in six games in relief, allowing 11 hits in 112/3 innings.

Roy Jones, Jr., will fight for the first time in nearly 10 months July 29 when he faces "Prince" Badi Ajamu for the NABO's light heavyweight title at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.
