STRUTHERS -- The first two nights of the K.O. Drugs Boxing Tourney are a fading memory, but plenty of action still remains with 45 bouts, including 11 undefeated pairings, set to highlight action Thursday night at the Struthers Field House.
Thirty-six area high schools will be represented with 17 underclass, 27 upperclass and one female division bout on tap.
Action is set to get under way at 7 p.m.
"We're at the midway point and the action is sure to heat up. You'll see the cream rise to the top as the top fighters meet the best in their weight class," said Chuck Nelson, the tournament's founder and director. "Quite a few area schools are represented so the fights should really be something to see."
Several still undefeated
The underclass division will have four of the undefeated bouts.
Boardman's Colby Clay, a split decision winner over Poland's Alan Gavolas the first time out, will take on Allen Shacklock, a unanimous winner over Warren Harding's Tom Rek.
Jerome Sutton of Rayen, a winner by default in his first match, will take on Mike Peters of Keystone, who won by first-round TKO over Kevin Creak of Life Skills in his opening round match.
Also squaring off will be Dave Italiano of Cardinal Mooney against Josh Hertel of Columbiana, and Chris Nicopolis of Champion against Sam Kilgore of Mathews.
Italiano won a unanimous decision over Jacob Head of Crestview his first time out, Hertel won a split decision over Luke Franken of Canfield, Nicopolis posted a unanimous decision over Ryan Simpson and Kilgore took a unanimous decision over Jon Klar of Springfield.
In undefeated upperclass division action, Jimmy Nelson of East Liverpool, a winner by unanimous decision over Donny Zarbaugh on opening night, takes on Ryan Clark of Sharon, a unanimous winner over Kyle Yocum of Hubbard last week, while Chris Manno of Girard will meet Boardman's Mike Rosa.
Manno won a split decision over Cordero Edwards of Liberty two weeks ago while Rosa registered a unanimous decision over Greg McKenith of Farrell last week.
Other bouts
Ursuline's Bryan Pegues takes on Derek Hedrick of East Liverpool while Dave Goettsch of Liberty will meet Mark Mehley of Struthers.
Pegues registered a unanimous decision over Greg Sopher of Canfield last week and Hedrick defeated Robert Wright of Liberty, also by unanimous decision.
Goettsch meanwhile topped Struthers' Jeff Randall by TKO in the first round two weeks ago while Mehley won last week by unanimous decision over Terry Kohlmetz of Keystone.
Both are super middleweight bouts.
The final three undefeated upperclass bouts feature Dustin Berresford of United and Shea McCready of East Liverpool, Robbie Porter of Niles, who will take on Struthers' Mike Duponty, and Girard's Sean Mostov who will take on Brandon Dragich of Liberty.
In the Female Division, Jessica Ward of Canfield will take on Stephanie Sahli of Struthers.
Sahli defeated Victoria Magyar of Canfield on the first night of action -- May 4.
