Board of education names new principal for schools

WARREN -- The board of education has appointed James Mitolo as principal of East Middle School for the 2006-07 school year, and principal of the new Lincoln kindergarten-through-eighth-grade building, expected to open in fall 2007, for the 2007-08 school year. The board appointed him Tuesday from a pool of 35 applicants.
Mitolo, who resides in Niles and is now Emerson Elementary School principal, previously was assistant principal and dean of students at Turner Middle School.
Having received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Bowling Green State University, Mitolo was a special education teacher in the Wood County and Warren City schools before becoming an administrator.
The board also raised lunch prices, effective this fall, from $1.35 to $1.50 for elementary pupils, from $1.50 to $1.75 for pupils in grades five through 12, and from $2 to $2.25 for adults. Milk prices will go from 30 to 40 cents. The last price increase was in 1994.
The board also approved two international field trips for Warren G. Harding High School students in April 2007 to be paid for by students' families or fundraising activities.
Students in French classes will go to Paris from April 5-13 at a cost of $1,726 per person; and biology students will go to Exuma Island in the Bahamas from April 12-20 at a cost of $1,500 per person.
