Superintendent says levy that failed will be retried
The board approved a number of supplemental contracts.
McDONALD -- Schools Superintendent Michael Wasser thanked supporters who worked for passage of a 4.5-mill continuous permanent improvement levy that failed on the May 2 primary ballot. He said he was disappointed but will try again.
The levy would have financed a $2.4 million sports complex and provided repairs to other school facilities.
Two women at Monday's board of education meeting who have sons playing varsity basketball urged the board to rehire varsity coach Jeff Rasile, praising him for his interest in their sons' academic and athletic endeavors.
Contracts
The board approved one-year supplemental contracts for Fred Gault, athletic director, $6,864, and physical fitness coach, $2,574; Jim Hall, assistant athletic director, $1,430; Rasile, head boys basketball coach, and Rob Hilbun, head girls basketball coach, $6,578 each; Chris Rupe, cross country boys coach, $3,146; Dan Williams, head football coach, $6,578; Carol Hart, high school Prep Bowl, $286; Carol Hart, academic adviser, $286; Marilyn Prodnick, band director, $4,290, and pep band director, $858; Debra Woodford, first-semester elementary music program and fall musical, $592, and second semester (Spring Sing), $572; Brenda Borton and Samantha Rozzo, junior class advisers, $858 each; Connie Morris, student council adviser, $1,430 a year; Cathy Woods, yearbook adviser, $3,718; Edward Dolsak, tennis coach, $3,146; Nancy Thomas, varsity cheerleading coach, $2,860; Samantha Rozzo, high school detention supervisor, $17 an hour.
The board also accepted donations of $1,000 from Mary Saganich for the John Saganich Scholarship Fund. The late Mr. Saganich taught at McDonald from 1953 until he became principal in 1968 and retired in 1979. A second donation of $600 was made by the Bodnar Family to the Bodnar Scholarship Fund.
The board also approved 52 graduates for the Class of 2006, which will graduate at 2 p.m. June 4 in the high school auditorium. Baccalaureate will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium.
