South Ave. Shuffle to include 6 bars
Money raised at this year's event will benefit Sojourner House.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The patrons of nine South Avenue bars will participate in the fifth annual South Avenue Shuffle for charity from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Money raised at this year's event will benefit Sojourner House, an organization that provides shelter and support to abused women and children.
More than 450 participants are scheduled to walk along South Avenue, visiting Evergreen Tavern, East Side Civics, VFW Post 93, Gergel's, Coconut Grove, Teenie's Tavern, Pastime Tavern, Irish Bob's Pub and Dragon Palace.
Each establishment will provide food and entertainment to the walkers.
All participants will receive a T-shirt for the walk, and two drinks will be included with the $15 registration fee.
Aside from benefiting a charity, Gergel's Bar owner Christine Gergel said the walk is an opportunity for area residents to see what the South Avenue bars have to offer.
"This is such a positive thing for the area," Gergel said. "It's just amazing how many diverse people come up to you and ask about the shuffle. We want to keep it growing."
Though the registration deadline has passed, event organizers are still accepting late registrants. For more information or to register for the walk, call Sue Cappetti at (330) 788-1683, or visit any of the participating bars.
