Girard man faces two court appearances

NILES -- A Girard man is scheduled to appear today in two courts on multiple traffic charges as a result of dual traffic crashes, including driving through a building.
David E. House, 19, of Belgrade Street, will be in Girard Municipal Court on charges of driving under the influence, failure to control a vehicle and driving under suspension. He also is appearing in Niles Municipal Court on charges of driving under suspension and reckless operation.
House, driving a Jeep Cherokee, was reportedly involved late Sunday afternoon in a hit-skip accident at state Route 11 and Tibbetts-Wick Road in Liberty.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol could not give details because the trooper took the report home with him.
Niles police reported that the patrol was chasing the Jeep Cherokee when police spotted the vehicle at Robbins and Vienna avenues. House drove the vehicle through the T-shaped intersection of Main Street and Robbins and crashed through a vacant building, a former Dairy Queen, at 156 N. Main St., about 5 p.m., police said. The small building was being remodeled to open as Jimmy Green's Pizza.
Police said House ran from his vehicle and was taken into custody a short distance from the scene.
"I want to turn myself in," he told police.
When police asked why he ran from his vehicle, he responded, "Because I don't have a license."
House was treated for a cut over his left eye at St. Joseph Health Center.
