2 trespasses reported at Austintown schools

AUSTINTOWN -- Woodside Elementary School reported a break-in over the weekend, and a janitor at Fitch High School said a car knocked down a gate at that school.
A custodian at Woodside, 4105 Elmwood Ave., told township police that between Friday evening and Monday morning, someone broke in, ransacked several rooms and set off a fire extinguisher. The alarm at the school was set, police said.
Mike Woods, principal at Woodside, said Monday that the burglar got in by breaking a window and unlatching it. He said four pupils' prescription medications were stolen from locked cabinets. Teachers' drawers were ransacked and small items, including small amounts of money, were taken, he said.
On Friday at 3:35 p.m., a janitor at Fitch saw a man in a blue work uniform driving through the grass east of the girls softball field, the report said. After closer inspection, the janitor discovered the driver had left the pavement on Falcon Drive and hit a fence and post. The janitor said the man drove back over the same gate and fence post as he left; he got out to inspect his car and to try to put the fence back up. He was in an older, brown, two-door car.
