CLASSES
XNiles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is sponsoring a pant-pattern fitting class with fitting expert Peggy Sagers. The class will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. June 23 at the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St., Cortland. Participants must come with their pant muslin made in advance. Cost for the personal fitting is $60 per person; light refreshments are included. CRAFT SHOWS
XCortland Arts and Crafts at the Garden will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull County Agricultural and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St., Cortland. The event is sponsored by OSU Trumbull County Master Gardeners and the Cortland Specialty Shoppes. Admission is free, and a series of 10-minute garden talks will be held on the hour beginning at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. There also will be a variety of demonstrations, and food will be available.
FUNDRAISERS
XAmerican Cancer Society Relay for Life will sponsor "Babes in Baseball" at 1 p.m. Sunday at Csonka's Sports Complex, state Route 45, Lisbon. The event will feature four men's softball teams that will play dressed as women. The teams are Columbiana/Crestview Gender Benders, Lisbon Blonde Bombers, Salem Sexy Mommas and East Liverpool Nylons & amp; Base Runners. There will be concessions, and those attending are invited to take their own lawn chairs.
XAmerican Cancer Society's Springfield Township Relay for Life will be held June 16-17 at Springfield Local High School Athletic Complex, 11335 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, New Middletown, Ohio. XCrisis Shelter of Lawrence County will hold its fifth annual benefit garden tour, "Gardens About Town," from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24 and from 1 to 5 p.m. June 25. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance at Print Center, Crisis Shelter, Weingartner Florist, Butz Flower and Feola's Greenhouse, New Castle, Pa.; Backyard Creations, Volant, Pa.; and New Wilmington Collection, New Wilmington, Pa. GOLF OUTINGS
XAlliance Community Hospital will host its 7th annual Charity Golf Classic on June 26 at Alliance Country Club. The event will begin with a shotgun start at noon and follow a team scramble format. Entry fee is $175 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner, giveaways and the opportunity to win various prizes. Proceeds will benefit the Alliance Family YMCA, the Alliance Neighborhood Center and the Alliance Parks Department. Deadline for registration is today. XEast State Street Preservation Society and Salem Merchants Association will conduct the 10th annual Cold and Rainy Yard and Sidewalk Sale on Saturday. The upper East State Street sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with no early bird sales. Downtown merchants sale is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
XThe Sunday school of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 415 S. Main St., Columbiana, will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday in conjunction with its rummage sale. Proceeds from the book sale will go to Relay for Life, and proceeds from the rummage sale will benefit the church's general fund. SPECIAL EVENTS
XAnimal Charity will hold its second annual Dog Show/Charity Hike from 1 to 4 p.m. June 3 at Boardman Township Park. The show will feature dogs of various breeds and mixed-breed dogs that would not qualify for other dog shows. The charity hike will be a nature hike through the trails at the park. Proceeds will be used to fund the organization's wildlife rehabilitation, humane and education programs.
XYoungstown City Schools will hold "From Breakfast to Broadway" from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Carrington South Rehabilitation Health Center, 850 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown. Breakfasts of pancakes and sausage will be served, and a play, "The Plan" by Rozz Chapman, will be presented at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $5 each, and will benefit the student competition fund. TEAS
XGirls between the ages of 4 and 9 and their favorite adults are invited to attend "Mommy and Me for Tea," a semiformal tea party, at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Boardman Community Center of Boardman Township Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road. The event also will feature a fashion show. Tickets may be purchased at the door at a cost of $5 for Boardman Township residents and $7 for nonresidents. Children under 12 months will be admitted for free.
