Boy Scouts Spring Jamboree set this weekend
CANFIELD -- The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America, will have its 2006 Spring Camporee from Friday through Sunday at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Troops from throughout Mahoning County will camp the weekend at the fairgrounds and participate Saturday in the Emergency Calls events.
The theme will be a leadership challenge to test the troops ability to mobilize and effectively carry out a disaster drill, giving them experience in emergency situations.
The Emergency Calls will fulfill many of the requirements for earning the emergency preparedness merit badge.
Scouts have been instructed to bring personal mobilization kits, and the troops have been instructed to bring unit mobilization kits along with their senior patrol leaders, assistant senior patrol leaders and patrol leaders on how to be prepared for this event.
With natural and manmade disasters occuring more recently in Americ and throughout the world, the youth will be better prepared on how to deal with these situaitons both at home and away, a scout release says.
This year's event is being hosted by Troop 46 from Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St.
