Celebration held at Vernon's Cafe for Joneses' 50th
XLIBERTY -- Relatives and friends joined Wilbur and Barbara (Nelson) Jones of Liberty at a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary held April 22 at Vernon's Caf & eacute;, Niles.
Arrangements for the event were made by the couple's daughter, Diane Johnson, and her husband, Ray, a chief warrant officer serving in Iraq. The Johnsons live in La Plata, Md.
Two grandchildren and a great-grandchild complete the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones were married April 25, 1956, at the Market Street Methodist Church in Winchester, Va. They are members of Richard Brown United Methodist Church in Youngstown, where Mrs. Jones is active with the United Methodist Women's group and Mothers Club.
Mr. Jones, who is known as "Red," was a yard conductor with the Erie and Conrail railroads in Youngstown. He retired in 1983 and is active in the railroads' golf leagues. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Mrs. Jones, who retired in 1992, worked in the office at McKelvey's and was a bookkeeper for Dollar Bank, both in Youngstown.
