Wings Over Mill Creekset for next Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Audobon Society/Mahoning Valley and Mill Creek MetroParks will present their third annual Wings Over Mill Creek, a celebration of bird migration, next Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake Newport Wetlands.
Activities and displays will include bird, plant and insect walks; live birds of prey; presentations on birding; eagles; ospreys; native versus invasive plants; and activities for children.
There will be a drawing for a pair of binoculars. Those attending should bring a picnic lunch. In case of inclement weather, tents will be available.
Gun show next weekend
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Tri-State Coon Hunters Club, Irish Ridge Road, will have a gun show next Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Items include guns, knives, archery and fishing equipment.
Admission is $3. No children under 10 will be admitted. Children ages 10-14 admitted free.

Rabies clinic today
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Tri-State Coon Hunters Club, Irish Ridge Road, is conducting a rabies clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
All animals are welcome. Fee is $5.

Happy Mother's Day
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State Parks' nine resorts are celebrating Mother's Day with dining or lodging specials that give mom the pampering she deserves.
Whether it's a getaway weekend or brunch with the family, each Ohio State Park resort lodge offers a variety of amenities and dining choices in some of the state's most picturesque settings.
"We invite moms to relax and let our experienced chefs do all the cooking this Mother's Day," said Dan West, Ohio State Parks chief. "There's no better place to celebrate this special day than in one of our full-service resort lodges."
The resort lodge at Mohican State Park in Ashland County is offering a weekend round of activities through Sunday. Moms can enjoy "movie and a snack" at 6 and 9 tonight in the lodge's Malabar Room. There is no charge for the feature-length movie and a box of popcorn. The lodge dining room will host a traditional Mother's Day brunch from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $21.95 for adults; $19.75 for seniors; and $9.95 for children age 5-12. Reservations are requested at (419) 938-5411.
Carriage rides and a special craft session will highlight Mother's Day at the lodge and conference center at Geneva State Park in Ashtabula County. The carriage rides will be offered from 10 a.m. until noon, with the craft session beginning at 1 p.m. Rides are $10 for adults and $5 for children. A special brunch will be served in the main dining room from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $26.95 for adults; $24.95 for seniors and $12.95 for children under age 12. Armed forces to behonored in Ashland Co.
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs will honor members of the military and their families on Armed Forces Day next Saturday at Mohican-Memorial State Forest, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry. A service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Forest Shrine, which is just off State Route 97 and close to State Route 3 in Ashland County.
A joint initiative of ODNR and the federation, the Memorial Forest Shrine is maintained by the ODNR Division of Forestry, which also oversees the surrounding 4,525-acre state forest.
PENNSYLVANIA
Fly fishing clinic
SANDY LAKE -- The McKeever Environmental Learning Center will host a fly fishing clinic with George Daniel, who began fly fishing at age 6 while growing up in Potter County, Pa., on Friday and next Saturday. He logs more than 200 days a year on local and regional trout streams.
The clinic includes: casting sessions, tactics and techniques for catching trout, water temperature, leader design, dry and wet flies, nymphs and streamers, and fishing with Daniel.
Cost is $115. Meals, lodging, Friday night presentation and social gathering are included.
