Maplewood beats Bristol for Div. IV sectional crown



Canfield (21-5) won the Metro Conference championship with a 12-1 record.
CORTLAND -- The Maplewood High baseball team, behind 6-4, scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning as it posted a 8-6 victory over Bristol Saturday for a Division IV sectional title.
Marty Urchak was walked leading off the inning for the Rockets (14-4). After a pop out, winning pitcher Craig Clemson (7-3) reached base on a fielder's choice, Urchak out at second. Nathan Orth pinch run for Clemson. Mike Finch reached base on an error and Chris Tucker walked to load the bases.
Orth scored on a passed ball. Finch and Tucker moved up a base. Wes Wiltrout singled home Finch and Tucker with Wiltrout going to second on a throw to the plate. Mike Kindle walked. Mike McConnell's flyout to center field was dropped, Wiltrout scored.
Jarett Partridge and Wiltrout led the Rockets with three singles apiece.
Eric Ramussen paced Bristol (9-10) with three singles, drove in a run and scored once.
The Rockets will travel to Euclid High School to take on Fairport Harbor Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in a district semifinal game.
Canfield 14, Campbell 3
CANFIELD -- Joe Rosko belted a grand slam and Canfield cruised to the Metro Athletic Conference baseball championship by beating Campbell.
The Cardinals (21-5, 12-1 MAC) pounded out 12 hits including three by C.J. Morris and Andrew Turocy. Turocy had a pair of doubles and Morris one. Jeff Gradman also had two hits.
Mark Carrocce pitched the first five innings and Rosko finished up as the two scattered just three hits.
Softball
RAVENNA -- Shannon Hamilton (8-3) pitched a complete game to pick up a 5-0 win for Southeast in the first game of the doubleheader, then she worked the ninth inning of the second contest to pick up another win, 8-7, over Waterloo.
Southeast (12-14) was paced by Chrissy Pahis, who hit a double in each game.
Waterloo slipped to 6-8.
