Man shot after ramming vehicle

DEER LODGE, Mont. (AP) -- A man who rammed a Montana State Prison officer's car and then pinned him against it was charged Friday with attempted murder.
Ron Violette, 47, who was shot in the elbow by the officer, was being held on $100,000 bail. He also is charged with felony counts of criminal endangerment and criminal mischief and misdemeanor criminal trespass, said Deer Lodge County Sheriff John Anderson.
Violette drove onto prison grounds just after 1 p.m. Thursday and struck the vehicle driven by the officer, who was patrolling the prison's perimeter, the Department of Corrections said. The officer then stepped out of his car before Violette drove into him and pinned him against it, the department said.
The officer then fired, Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard said. Violette drove off and was later arrested 21 miles south in Opportunity, Howard said.
