Howland teacher elected to post



HOWLAND -- James Timlin, president of the Howland Classroom Teachers Association, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Ohio Education Association.
Timlin, of Youngstown, is an English teacher at Howland Middle School and has been teaching in the district for 30 years.
Timlin was elected this weekend by OEA's representative assembly, which is composed of more than 1,300 delegates from local education associations throughout the state.
The OEA union represents teachers, school support professionals and higher education faculty.
Timlin has received several recognitions for his work, including being named to the Power of the Pen Hall of Fame and receiving the Giant Eagle WFMJ Class Act Teacher Award.
He has served as chief negotiator for the Howland union for more than 20 years and has also served on the OEA executive committee.
Timlin will serve a three-year term as secretary-treasurer of the union that represents 130,000 teachers, faculty members and support staff in Ohio's public schools, colleges and universities.
