Hospital releases surviving triplet
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The 4-year-old triplet who survived a crash that killed his father and two siblings was released from a hospital Friday night.
Ethan Morrison was critically injured April 13 when his father's minivan was hit by a three-ton wood-chipper that broke free from a truck.
"Cognitively he's there. His mother says he's the way he was before the accident," Dr. Edward M. Barksdale Jr. of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh said Saturday.
Barksdale also read a statement by the boy's mother, Nichole Morrison, thanking members of the public for their support.
The boy's father, Spencer Morrison, 37, of suburban Cranberry, and two other triplets, Alaina and Garret, were killed in the crash on Route 8 just north of Pittsburgh.
Bradley Demitras, 34, of Pine Township, faces a preliminary hearing June 23 on charges of homicide by vehicle and other counts. Allegheny County prosecutors allege that he did not check the trailer connection on the wood-chipper and its safety equipment before driving the truck.
Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward visited Ethan in the hospital and autographed a football for Ethan, Barksdale said.
