Discussion to focus on Hartford fire service
BROOKFIELD -- Township trustees from Hartford and Brookfield have called a special meeting to discuss increased fire service for Hartford.
Gary Lees, chairman of the Brookfield trustees, said Hartford's fire service lacks both equipment, with only one pumper truck, and manpower. Hartford has been unable to pass a fire levy.
Brookfield's fire department is "pretty well equipped," Lees explained, noting it has opened a station to serve Masury residents.
One solution is for Hartford to pay Brookfield on a per-call basis when a fire breaks out in Hartford, Lees said.
The joint special meeting involving trustees and fire chiefs will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Brookfield Administration Building.
"We don't want to shut them off," Lees said of helping Hartford. "They're our neighbors and we want to help them."
