COLLEGE SOFTBALL Pancake, Cornicelli earn All-PAC honors



The Boardman and Howland standouts earned first-team honors.

NEW WILMINGTON -- Two of the seven Youngstown-area players on the Westminster College softball team -- Jennifer Pancake (Boardman) and Stephanie Cornicelli (Howland) -- were selected to the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first team.
Pancake, a junior pitcher and designated hitter, made the first team for the third consecutive season.
She led the PAC in earned run average (1.34) and was second in strikeouts (104) while posting a 17-13 record in 188 innings.
At the plate while starting all 40 games, Pancake led the team in doubles (11) and home runs (3) and was tied for first in RBIs (25) and was second in batting average (.325 on 39-for-120). She also scored 15 runs.
Cornicelli top hitter
Cornicelli, a junior outfielder from Howland, led Westminster in hitting with a .359 batting average (46-for-128), good for eighth in the PAC. She also led the PAC in stolen bases (13) while adding a team-best 25 runs scored and nine RBIs.
Cornicelli's sister, Amy, also is a starter on the Westminster team as a freshman catcher and infielder. Amy batted .245 (26-for-106) with 13 RBIs and scored seven runs.
The other two Westminster players making All-PAC first team were senior second baseman Abby Mazar and junior first baseman Kristin Zyskowski.
Westminster posted a 22-18 overall record, including 9-3 in the PAC for second place, for ninth-year coach Jan Reddinger. It marked the Titans' 23rd winning record in the past 25 seasons.
Henry has 1.96 ERA
Also with the Titans were Sarah Henry, a sophomore pitcher from Bristol; Gina Brunetti, a freshman outfielder from Cardinal Mooney; Maria Joseph, a sophomore shortstop from New Castle, and Allison Ginnetti, a sophomore third baseman from Struthers.
Henry had a 3-3 record with a 1.96 ERA over 57 innings with 41 strikeouts and 21 walks.
Brunetti batted .318 (7-for-22) with four runs scored while Joseph, also a starter, batted .222 (24-for-108) with 11 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Ginnetti played in 17 games with one start.
