MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission approved three amendments to zoning regulations.
These will be forwarded to trustees for a public hearing and the trustees' vote.
On Wednesday the commission amended zoning regulating the sale of vehicles anywhere but at a dealership.
Only one vehicle at a time can be put up for sale and it must have current license plates and the owner must be able to provide proof of ownership.
Vehicles for sale must be parked in the driveway, the front yard, or a designated parking space on the property, such as a turnaround or a graveled drive. The vehicle must be in driving condition, and a "for sale" sign must be visible from the road and displayed inside the vehicle.
An amendment creating a form to list reasons why a zoning application had been turned down was approved. The form will provide a history on the denied application.
Also approved was an amendment on gas and oil well regulations requiring that, in situations not already covered by Ohio law, the township's zoning laws will apply.
Under consideration
The commission is also considering other changes. One is a new definition for recreational vehicles. Another would require that recreational vehicles be parked or stored in the rear or side yard of a residence and must comply with all zoning setback and side-yard requirements.
Zoning Inspector Sherri Craver said the commission wants to revisit the recreational vehicle portion and come up with better language.
Also to be reviewed is a new temporary sign regulation requiring that signs be no larger than 25 square feet and that they be placed no closer than 20 feet to any street or traffic surface. The sign cannot cause any vision obstruction.
The commission was told by township business owners that most of them have signs that are 4 by 8 feet or 32 square feet, and the same is true in other communities. The commission also plans to review that amendment.
