Approved a resolution to amend the county's Emergency 911 plan to include cellular calls. The county will soon accept proposals on connecting its geographic information system, master street address guide and computer-aided dispatch system, which will make it possible to pinpoint the location of a wireless caller who dials 911. About 72 percent of the nation's 911 calls last year originated from a cell phone, said Walter M. Duzzny, the county's director of emergency management and communications. Service is expected to begin by late summer.
Authorized application for two loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development fund. One loan for $2.7 million will cover cost overruns from a sewer line extension project in Lake Milton. The other loan, for $900,000, is for a planned sewer project in Petersburg. Both loans will be repaid with revenues from sanitary engineering department fees, not the county's general fund, said William Coleman, the sanitary department's office manager.
