No. 7 seed Wright State (7-39) scored three times in the first inning and then rode the arm of pitcher Amanda Cody to knock off the second-seeded Vikings. Sophomore Jacqueline Macy led the Raiders with three hits including a solo home run in the third inning. Michelle Logan added two hits for the winners. Cody allowed 10 hits, while striking out six and walking just one. Cleveland State (35-14) was led by freshman Christa Coppus with three hits including two doubles.
UW-Green Bay 6, Loyola 3
Senior Anna Nieznanski hit a grand slam in the fourth inning that brought No. 4 seed Green Bay back from a 3-2 deficit. Nieznanski had two hits and Rebekah Oestreich added two for the Phoenix (18-40). Loyola (14-19), the No. 5 seed, had only five hits in the game, two of them by junior Tara Miller, one a lead-off home run in the first inning. Katerina Krause also homered for the Rambers. Senior Lisa Meissner pitched a five-hitter and struck out 12 for the Phoenix.
Illinois-Chicago 7, Butler 0
Top-seeded UIC (25-31) scored four times in the third inning then coasted past No. 8 seeded Butler (17-29-1). The Flames, who have won this tournament six times in the last eight years, pounded out 11 hits and were backed by the one-hit pitching of freshman Sarah Clynes, who struck out seven and walked just one. Clynes also had two hits including a double, while Elizabeth Jacoby had three hits including two doubles and four runs batted in. Sophomore Jenny Jacobs had the only hit off Clynes in the second inning.
