Walks to head polka cruise
Larry Walk will celebrate the 42nd anniversary of his Happy Polkaland Radio Show on May 21.
Walk, of Austintown, and his wife and co-host, Diana, will emcee a four-hour polka celebration on Pittsburgh's Gateway Clipper Majestic riverboat.
Three bands will be featured on three decks during the cruise: Ray Jay and the Carousels, Henny and Versa V's, and Lil' John's ATM Band. Boarding will begin at noon, when the music will begin.
The ship will leave Station Square dock at 1 p.m.
Larry's Happy Polkaland Show airs every Sunday on WKTX, AM-830, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and WSOM, AM-600, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The coverage area of both stations ranges from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, and Canada to West Virginia. Over the past 42 years, Walk's Happy Polkaland shows have been carried by 14 stations.
Walk was inducted into the International Polka Association's Polka Hall of Fame in Chicago in 1994 and was co-festmeister at the Bavarian Funfest in Sharon, Pa.
Walk also promoted the Penn-Ohio Polka Festivals at numerous venues including Idora Park, Conneaut Lake Park and Yankee Lake Ballroom.
Walk and his wife will emcee a Slovene-style Polka Cruise with band leaders Dick Tady, Jack Tady, Larry Placek, Bob Zolka, Karl Lukitsch and George Berasei's Sunrays on the Majestic on July 4.
On Sept. 4, the Walks will emcee the Annual Labor Day Slovene cruise featuring Del Sinchak, The Casuals and the Polka Quads.
