UPMC, others plan event called 'Focus on Trauma'



HERMITAGE, Pa. -- In recognition of National Emergency Medical Services Week, which runs from Sunday through May 20, UPMC Horizon, UPMC Pre-Hospital Care Services STAT MedEvac and Butler County Community College will present "Focus on Trauma," from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Hickory VFW's Normandy Banquet Center, East State Street (U.S. Route 62).
The symposium for emergency medical professionals includes a trauma case review with Dr. Andy Peitzman, vice chairman for Clinical Services at UPMC; "Unexpected Survivors of Trauma," with Dr. Raquel Forsythe, assistant professor of surgery and critical care medicine at UPMC; "Exemplar Trauma Cases," with Dr. Brian Risavi, associate director and attending physician of the emergency medicine residency program at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, and regional medical director of the Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of EMS; and "Trauma in Pediatrics," with Dr. Barbara Gaines, pediatric surgery and trauma and injury prevention, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
