HOWLAND -- Township trustees have outlined their goals for this year.
Rick Clark, board president, said during the trustees meeting Wednesday that a priority is to expand the road resurfacing program. In 2005, the township resurfaced 3.8 miles of roads at a cost of $165,613. Clark said this was a reduction from previous years because of fiscal restraints.
Other goals he said include replacing aging cars and radio equipment in the police department and trucks in the public works department.
Also, Clark said the board is looking to complete the walking trails on 100 acres of Mosquito Creek wetlands.
In other business, trustees authorized the fiscal officer, formerly known as the township clerk, to advertise for bids for the Fairhill-Shaffer Drive storm water sewer improvement project.
What's planned
David McCann, director of public works, said a 48-inch storm sewer that runs along Fairhill Drive will be rehabilitated because of breaks in the line. Also, pipe will be installed to close an open ditch along Shaffer Drive in front of the high school stadium.
Total cost of the project is $231,000 with $147,840 being paid through state Issue 2 funding.
McCann said bids should be received in mid-June, and the work may be done this year.
Trustees also agreed to buy 1,750 tons of salt through the Ohio Department of Transportation's purchasing program.
McCann reported the township used 1,400 tons of salt during this year's mild winter compared with 2,200 the previous winter.
