Summer jobs listed
One commissioner questioned how many people were interviewed for certain county jobs.
WARREN -- With spring and not-so-distant summer in the air, thoughts of Trumbull County officials have turned to hiring summer help.
Tom Mahoney, director of the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services, told county commissioners this week that his agency will use between 300 and 400 young people in its Summer Youth Employment and Training Program.
Mahoney said the seven- to eight-week program is open to low-income people between the age of 15 and 21. Applications are being taken at the J & amp;FS office at 150 S. Park Ave. through the end of May.
People working in the program work on baseball fields, in parks, cut grass, work at schools, beautify areas of the city and do other work at the direction of college-age monitors.
Monitors hired
At Wednesday's meeting, commissioners approved the hiring of five monitors to begin work Monday and work through Aug. 4. They will be paid $9 per hour and their salary will come from federal and state funds.
Those hired are Christine M. Hulvalchick, Danielle Miller, Brittney Campana, Andriel Aminah Johnson and Judith Kellar.
Commissioners also hired Kalli Katarina Bullard as enforcement specialist with the Child Support Division of the J & amp;FS effective Monday. She will be paid $12.70 per hour. When questioned by Commissioner Paul Heltzel, Mahoney said 10 to 12 people were interviewed for the position.
Commissioners also filled a receptionist position with the Child Support Division by hiring Rosemary Horvath, who will start Monday and earn $9.49 per hour. When asked by Heltzel, Mahoney said she was the only person interviewed and said this was because, "Commissioners wanted to see her get the position."
Mahoney said she inquired about the job through the commissioners office, county personnel department and J & amp;FS.
