Springfield 11, Mineral Ridge 1
MINERAL RIDGE -- Senior Ashley Fagnano had a triple and two doubles for Springfield, which clinched the Inter-County League championship outright with a 13-0 record. The Tigers (17-8) are guided by first-year coach Amy Angelo. Senior Christy Warren had a triple and double while winning pitcher Krista Snyder added a double. Snyder, also a senior, allowed two hits in four innings before reliever Colleen Platt, a senior, struck out one and walked one in the final inning of the five-inning contest. Springfield's season-ending game is today at Lowellville at 4:30 p.m.
Sebring 8, Lowellville 6
LOWELLVILLE -- With the score tied, 5-5, in the top of the 10th, Kayla Faudree's single drove in two runs and then Faundree scored for the Trojans. Ashley Amabeli had a two-run homer and two singles, while Chantel Fox had a double and two singles for the winners (9-11). Junior Jacque Schrader had a double and single, while Shawna McDowell added two singles for Lowevllille (10-12). The two teams play again Friday in Sebring.
Minerva 7, West Branch 0
BELOIT -- Minerva scored one run in the second inning and three in both the fourth and seventh and Shea Covert tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven for the Lions (16-6).
Meghan Simons had three hits, including a double for the winners. Allison Edie doubled for West Branch (8-18), while Becky Rinyo and Melissa Solomon singled for the Warriors' only other hits.
North Canton Hoover 2, Fitch 0
CANTON -- Jessica Simpson (10-0) fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts as North Canton Hoover blanked the Falcons Tuesday in a Federal League contest. Hoover took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning to prevail. Kara Warren pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts in a losing cause for the Falcons.
BASEBALL
Howland 8, Poland 7
POLAND -- The Tigers (9-3) in the Metro Athletic Conference scored three runs in the second inning, three in the fourth and two in the fifth, then held off a late rally by the Bulldogs (18-6, 8-4). Tony Pozega paced Howland with a triple and single. Ben Leece, Jake Kakavros, John Brady and Justin Street added two hits apiece. Mat Pitzulo hit a home run, double and drove in three runs to pace Poland, Dave White hit a pair of singles.
East Liverpool 14, Campbell 9
CAMPBELL -- The Potters pounded out 17 hits, with every batter in the starting lineup getting at least one in the MAC game. East Liverpool pulled away with an eight-run fourth inning. Winning pitch Chris Carr, Nate Howard and Nate Blackburn each had three hits. The Red Devils (5-14, 3-7) were led by Lonnie McQueen, who hit three singles and Robert Switka with a double, two singles and three RBIs.
Hubbard 7, Liberty 6
HUBBARD -- The Eagles snapped a 4-4 tie, when they scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Frank Rosile paced the Eagles (15-9, 8-4) in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game with a double and two singles. He scored twice and drove in two runs. Jeff Kay hit a double and home run and drove in two runs for the Leopards.
East Palestine 13, Crestview 1
NEW WATERFORD -- The Bulldogs (18-4, 7-3) scored seven runs in the first inning and six in the third in the Tri-County League contest. Zac Dunn paced the Bulldogs with a home run and two singles and he drove in three runs. Corey Hill sparked the Rebels (15-8) with a triple and single.
Norton 13, Southeast 1
RAVENNA -- Aaron Cook and fifth-ining reliever Jeff Zagor combined to pitch a four-hitter for Norton. Jared Emerick had a homer and single, Jeremy Perry a double and single and Kevin Haramis and Joe Durent two singles each to lead Norton. Southeast is 6-19.
Grove City 15, Hickory 2
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City scored 11 runs during the first three innings in cruising to the victory. Jesse Alfreno, Beau Fisher and Dan Kiel had a pair of hits apiece to spark Grove City, which leads the District 10, Region 5 standings with a 9-1 record and it is 12-3 overall.
Harding 13, Warren JFK 5
WARREN -- Deandre Ware had four hits, Nolan Ingram three and Willie Sekula two and Tom Elder pitched a seven-inning, five-hitter for the Raiders (18-7) on Tuesday. Also for Harding, Dan Popadak had four RBIs.
