KEFLAVIK, Iceland -- A military hearing began Tuesday to determine if a U.S. serviceman from Warren could face court-martial on charges accusing him of killing another airman scheduled to testify against him in another case.
Air Force Airman Calvin Eugene Hill, 20, of Warren, has been in military custody in Mannheim, Germany, since last summer. He was charged with murder in February in the death of Airman 1st Class Ashley Turner, 20, of the 56th Rescue Squadron.
He is a 2003 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.
Turner was found unconscious in her dormitory in August on the U.S. Naval Air Station in Keflavik with head and neck injuries, according to a news release issued by the air station at the time. She died at the hospital on base, which is outside the capital of Reykjavik.
Turner, of Frederick, Md., had been scheduled to testify against Hill, who was facing three charges of larceny and wrongful appropriation, false official statements and absence without leave. Turner and Hill lived in the same dormitory.
Col. Mark Allred, the hearing's investigating officer, is to make a recommendation at the end of this week's proceedings to determine whether Hill will face court-martial. If court-martialed and found guilty of murder, Hill would get life imprisonment or the death penalty.
