HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Low- and moderate-income residents of Mahoning Township who are on the new Pennsylvania American waterline in North Edinburg must apply within 30 days to receive Community Development Block Grant money to help with their service line installation.
Residents should call the township offices at (724) 667-8801 to determine whether they are eligible.
In addition, supervisors would like to have all residents on the more recently installed line in Edinburg village, Aqua Pa. waterline, to be hooked onto that line within 90 days. The tap-in fee is $750. Residents should call the township offices to arrange for connection.
Supervisor Poncho Exposito said he would also like to hear from anyone who still needs work done to restore areas where the waterline was installed as he is preparing a final list of work that needs to be done to complete the project.
Other action
In other business at the supervisors' meeting Tuesday, township Solicitor Tom Leslie reported he has researched the deed for the township Community Center and said there are no legal barriers to offering it for sale. Supervisors had agreed at the April meeting to seek funding for a new township building to replace the current one next to the Community Center and to sell the Community Center if possible.
Supervisors raised daily swimming pool admission rates for the coming season from $2.25 to $2.50 for residents and from $2.75 to $3 for nonresidents. Senior citizens will continue to be admitted free.
Rates for season permits were also increased $5 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. This made new rates for residents: Married couple, $65; single parent, $55; student, $35; and single adult, $55.
New nonresident rates are: Married couple, $95; single parent or adult, $90; and student, $50.
Both resident and nonresident children's season rates remain at $5.
Also at the meeting:
Dunbar Asphalt Products Inc., Wheatland, reported that it has applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for a recycled waste permit for its Hillsville location on U.S. Route 224. The company plans to install a recycled waste oil storage tank, heater and related plumbing for heating aggregates in the drying process.
Police Chief Jim Morris said that though the burning ban has been lifted in Lawrence County, the township burning ordinance is still in effect and will be strictly enforced. The township prohibits Sunday and holiday burning except for recreational burning, such as bonfires, burning after 9 p.m., burning of garbage or commercial burning. For weekday burning, residents should obtain a permit by calling township offices.
