BASEBALL (DIVISION II)
Canfield 12, Wilson 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- C.J. Morris had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Cardinals (19-5). One of his hits was a double and he scored two runs. Dan Moran and Andrew Turocy each had two hits and two RBIs. Also with two RBIs were Paul Ruchtie and John Pitzulo. Steve Schoenfeld tossed a two-hitter in the five-inning game. For Wilson, Tom Mulligan and Andre Figueroa had hits. Canfield advances to play Hubbard in a district semifinal next Tuesday at Cene Park.
Hubbard 4, Crestwood 0
MANTUA -- Hubbard took a 2-0 lead In the first inning, loading the bases with one out. Greg Rosile hit a grounder to the Crestwood shortstop and he attempt to start a double play, but threw the ball away allowing Corey Hitt and Tom Jones to score. Eddie Palestro and Hitt each had two hits for the Eagles (14-9).
Niles 7, Ravenna 4
RAVENNA -- Kyle Pitts had three hits and pitched a four-hitter for the victory for Niles. Mike Kelly homered and had three RBIs for the Red Dragons (17-6), who will play Poland at Cene Park next Tuesday in a district semifinal. Brian Bianco doubled for the Red Dragons. Losing pitcher Shane Anderson had two hits, including a double, for Ravenna.
Poland 10, Lakeview 5
POLAND -- Lou Coppola allowed just five hits with six strikeouts for Poland (18-5). Frank Larubbio had a triple and a single and Dave White and Mike Rubesa each doubled for Poland. With the score tied 3-3 after five innings, Poland came up with a seven-run sixth. Ed Mackiewicz had two hits, one a double, for Lakeview (12-12).
SOFTBALL (DIVISION IV)
Jackson-Milton 10, Lowellville 0
NORTH JACKSON -- Krista Kiraly pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven for Jackson-Milton. Jackson-Milton moves on to the district semifinal to play Western Reserve next Tuesday at Lakeview. Carrie Fiol had four hits and two RBIs while Kortney Gherardi had two hits, including a double, for the Bluejays (16-12). Sarayna Svetlak doubled for Lowellville (10-11).
Columbiana 13, East Canton 5
COLUMBIANA -- The Clippers erupted for eight runs in the top of the eighth inning. Jessica Steiging hit a triple and two singles and Kayla Seybert hit three singles and drove in two runs fof the Clippers (11-9), who will play Windham next Tuesday. East Canton is 9-14.
Mathews 2,Ash. Sts. Paul & amp; John 0, 11 innings
VIENNA -- Mathews (19-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning. Freshman Alyssa DeJean reached base on an error before freshman Audrey Dodgson's single advanced DeJean to third, while Dodgson scurried to second. Senior Jessie Hall's single down the third-base line scored both to the winning runs. The win was Mathews' 17th in a row. Caitlyn Youngs, a junior, struck out 19 and did allow a walk for the Mustangs. Stephanie Houser had 12 strikeouts for SJP (10-3). Mathews advances to the Eastlake district.
Other games
Western Reserve defeated Sebring, 15-10; Windham defeated McDonald, 6-0, and Bristol defeated Southington, 10-2. Details of these games were not reported.
