Woman pleads guilty to record tampering
WARREN -- A 49-year-old city woman pleaded guilty to tampering with records for turning in false documents to the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services regarding child-care services.
Vanessa Whitehead, of 994 Bennett Ave. N.W., pleaded guilty Monday in the Trumbull County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Peter Kontos to the misdemeanor charge and will be sentenced after a presentence investigation.
She had originally faced felony charges of grand theft and tampering with records, but reached a plea agreement. She could be sentenced to up to six months in jail.
Atty. Jeff Adler, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said Whitehead had turned in an invoice in 2005 indicating she provided day-care services for a certain family -- but had not in fact provided any services for the family.
Part of her sentence will be to reimburse the J & amp;FS the $5,734 she fraudulently received, Judge Kontos said.
