Ursuline rolls easily against Mooney, 10-3



The Irish pounded out 12 hits including four doubles to improve to 18-4.
STRUTHERS -- The Ursuline High baseball team rapped out 12 hits, including four doubles, as the Irish stopped Mooney 10-3 Monday at Cene Park.
The Irish (18-4) scored four times in the third and fourth innings to open an 8-0 lead.
Leading the Ursuline attack was David Patrick and Todd Finn, each with two hits including a double apiece.
Ross Revella and Shawn Roman also doubled for the Irish and Eddie Rohan had two singles and two RBIs.
Mooney is 11-12.
The game did not count in the Steel Valley Conference standings.
Girard 5, Champion 1
GIRARD -- With eight of its nine starters each hitting a single, the Indians (13-11) managed to score two runs in the second inning and two in the fifth to prevail.
Eric Stevens (4-3) worked a complete game to pick up the win.
Andy Kalman hit a pair of singles for Champion.
Leetonia 9, United 3
LEETONIA -- The Bears broke a 3-3 tie when they scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Andy Kisner hit a triple and single, while Jon Williams and winning pitcher Ryan Gruszecki each hit two singles to pace the Bears (5-15, 3-10).
Gruszecki (3-5) scattered five hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win.
Salem 4, E. Liverpool 2
SALEM -- Bryan Wright (2-3) threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Quakers (12-12).
Also for Salem, Ben Miller doubled in a 10-hit attack.
The Potters (6-17) led 2-1 after three innings.
Maplewood 10, Mathews 4
VIENNA -- A six-run fifth inning by Maplewood (12-4, 11-3) was the difference in the Northeast Athletic Conference contest.
Mike Kindle sparked the Rockets with a double, single and he drove in three runs.
Winning pitcher Brian Dawson (3-0) and Jared Patridge each hit two singles.
Norton 4, Southeast 2
NORTON -- Craig Clayton homered and singled while Kale Jackson had a triple for Norton.
Joe Knopick singled twice for the Pirates (6-18).
