Mooney sweeps top seeds for sectional tournament

Cardinal Mooney High players swept the top seeds for the upcoming Division II boys sectional tennis tournament.
Josh Cook was voted top seed in singles, while his teammates A.J. Cook and Nick Morcos claimed the No. 1 spot in doubles.
The tournament begins Thursday, with singles play at Boardman High School, starting at 8:15 a.m., while doubles will be contested at the Volney Rogers courts starting at 8:30 a.m.
The semifinals and finals will be held Saturday, with the top four placers in both singles and doubles advancing to the district tournament in Canton.
The other singles seeds were No. 2 Anthony Roselli of Poland, No. 3 Eric Saddle of Liberty and No. 4 Andrew Martin of Jefferson.
Poland doubles teams are the second and third seeds. Chad Ruehs and Matt McElroy are No. 2 and Fred Romeo and Brad Brocker are No. 3. Vlad Lungu and Jon Eusanio of Ursuline are the No. 4 seed.
In case of inclement weather, play will be moved to the Boardman Tennis Center and the Liberty Racquet Club.
Division I
Scott Warden of Boardman is the third seed for the Div. I sectional tournament, scheduled for Thursday and Saturday at the Stadium Park and Malone College courts in Canton.
Boardman's doubles team of Robert Salcedo and Chris Leson were also voted No. 3 seeds.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles advance to the district tournament May 17-20 at Oberlin College.
Players from Fitch and Canfield will also participate in the tournament.
