Man gets year in prison for sexual battery
WARREN -- A 35-year-old Youngstown man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery and was sentenced to one year in prison for an assault on a girlfriend who had tried to end the relationship.
Larvett Carlton, 35, of Green Acres Drive, was indicted on three counts of rape in March. With the consent of the victim, the charges were reduced to sexual battery, said Judge Andrew Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Carlton was scheduled to go to trial Monday before Judge Logan.
Chuck Morrow, assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said the victim told Liberty police she had tried to break off the relationship with Carlton. She said Carlton had sex with her three times on Jan. 4, 2006, while she was on medication, which hampered her ability to protect herself.
As part of his sentence, Carlton will have to register as a sexually oriented offender when he leaves prison, Judge Logan said.
