YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown CityScape is seeking volunteers and financial contributions for its ninth annual Streetscape project, "Planting Pride in Youngstown." The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 3 downtown. The rain date is June 4 during this same time period. Volunteers are needed to remove debris, to trim, plant flowers and shrubs and mulch planted areas. Streetscape 2006 is a visual improvement project of Youngstown CityScape, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to revitalize downtown Youngstown and gateways through beautification, education and preservation. MCCTC spring plant sale
CANFIELD -- The spring plant sale sponsored by the horticulture program at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, is under way from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. school days until all items are sold. Annual bedding plants, hanging baskets, single and double geraniums, foliage plants and tomato plants are available. Planters and dish gardens are available by request. AUSTINTOWN -- The Ohio Virtual Academy, a statewide public online school for pupils in kindergarten through ninth grade, will hold an information session for parents at 7 p.m. May 16 at the Hampton Inn, 6690 Ironwood Blvd. Families attending will see a demonstration of the academic program and learn how their children can enroll in the tuition-free, public school for 2006-07. History for preschoolers
CANFIELD -- Loghurst, a Western Reserve Historical Society museum, will present its annual program for preschoolers next Monday-May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Youngsters will be given a tour of the home while visiting 10 learning stations designed for children ages 3 to 6. This year's theme is "My Old Farm." Activities include an eggs-in-the-hay hunt, a storyteller, a craft, dress-up, stick-horse races, milk the cow and churning butter. Groups of 10 or more must preregister. The cost is $5 per child, with one adult admitted free for each paying preschooler. The group rate is $3 per child. Loghurst is at 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. History of the RV
YOUNGSTOWN -- David Woodworth, a historian of recreational vehicles, will visit Younsgtown with two RVs -- one made in 1931 for the late Hollywood star Mae West and another with today's technology. He will be at the Chevrolet Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Called the National RV History Tour, the visit is designed to show the history of RV travel and to showcase the advances in technology and manufacturing today. Woodworth has been a consultant to the Smithsonian Institution for various camping-related projects.
