NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will return in the fall for its sixth season at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.
The 2006-07 season begins Oct. 11 when Marvin Hamlisch conducts a program titled "Marvin's Fabulous '50s" featuring the 21st Century Platters.
Hamlisch will lead the orchestra in the doo-wop and R & amp;B sounds of the 21st Century Platters. Carrying on the timeless tradition of The Platters and other groups of the 1950s, the 21st Century Platters perform such hits as "Only You," "Earth Angel" and "The Great Pretender."
Then, on Dec. 9, the PSO's own Andr & eacute;s C & aacute;rdenes and Randolph Kelly will headline a concert conducted by artistic adviser Sir Andrew Davis.
Concertmaster C & aacute;rdenes and Principal Viola Randolph Kelly will demonstrate virtuosity by performing Bach and Bruch's concertos, and Sir Andrew Davis conducts Dvor & aacute;k's popular Symphony No. 9.
