Family dinner held in Niles for Hyre 60th
XWARREN -- The 60th anniversary of their wedding is being celebrated today by Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hyre Sr., 753 Wildwood Drive N.E., during a private family dinner party at Alberini's Restaurant, Niles.
Hosts for the event are the couple's children, John M. Hyre Jr. of Canfield, Hugh M. Hyre of Lewisville, and Mary Hyre Scafidi of Tallmadge. Included in their family circle are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The former Elouise Martin and Mr. Hyre were united in marriage May 5, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance.
Prior to retiring in 1989, Mrs. Hyre was a manager at the Eastwood Mall location of Waldenbooks in Niles. She has been a Girl Scout leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Niles Community Center, a speaker for an Ohio Arts Council "Cultures of the Past" public school program, and a member of the Ohio and Trumbull County historical societies.
Mr. Hyre served with Company C of the 202nd Combat Engineers and was a production engineer with American Welding Co. prior to retiring in 1987. He has been a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Ohio and Trumbull County historical societies and various metallurgical associations. He served as the Red Cross co-chairman of the Industrial Blood Drive in the '60s.
