Brunetti gives Mooney good foundation in 12-2 victory
STRUTHERS -- Tony Brunetti doubled and singled and accounted for two RBIs in Cardinal Mooney's 12-2 five-inning win over Columbiana at Cene Park Saturday night.
John Mayo added a double and two singles for three RBIs and Pat Kelley added two hits and scored once for the Cardinals (12-11). Off the bench, Mark Babyak went 2-for-2 and tallied once.
Pat Kelley fanned five in a combined two-hitter with Scott Smith, who pitched the fifth.
Neal Brandt and Jeff Rupert had a single apiece for Columbiana's only hits. The Clippers are 11-13.
Mooney and Ursuline meet Monday at 4:30 on Cene Field 1 in a regular-season game. Struthers and Campbell follow in a game that marks Senior Night for the Wildcats.
Lakeview 2, Howland 1
CORTLAND -- Lakeview scored both of its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win a non-league game.
Jeff Musick went the distance for the Bulldogs (12-10), allowing just two hits while striking out 10. Musick also went 2-for-4 with a double.
Jake Kakavros struck out five in a complete-game effort for the Tigers. Manoli Pahoulis scored Howland's only run in the first inning.
He walked to lead off the game and came around to score on a wild pitch.
In the Lakeview seventh, Jon Mullins hit a pinch-hit single and went to second on a hit by Steve Miller.
Musick's double scored one run and Miller scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to Ed Mackiewicz.
T.J. Stoian had a triple for the Tigers.
