Authorities probe two-vehicle accident



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- State police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Mahoning Township that sent six people to hospitals.
According to the New Castle station of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lowell and Janice Scott, both of North Pike Road, Sarver, Pa., were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
John Rodgers and Melissa, Brandon and Sierra Knight, all of Rear Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, Pa., were taken to Jameson Hospital.
Police did not have ages available on any victims, and no information was available from local hospitals on Sunday night.
Police said Lowell Scott and John Rodgers were driving east on U.S. Route 422 near U.S. Route 224 in Mahoning Township about 12:30 p.m. Sunday when the crash occurred.
According to police, John Rodgers was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier and attempting to turn right into a drive. Lowell Scott was behind Rodgers' car in a Chevrolet Blazer and traveling too fast. Police said Lowell Scott attempted to avoid Rodgers' car by steering off the road, and the Blazer struck several railroad ties and rolled over, striking the passenger side of Rodgers' car.
