YOUNGSTOWN -- Pig Iron Literary & amp; Arts Works Inc. and Cedars Cafe have agreed to discontinue holding the group's monthly Second Tuesday Open Poetry at the cafe. Beginning this month, the event will be held at various locations, which will be announced. This month's reading is set for Tuesday at the Old Precinct Delicatessen, 32 N. Phelps St. Sign-up will take place at the door until 7:45 p.m., with readings to follow at 8. The program usually concludes at 9:45. Writers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Local author to speak
WILLOUGHBY -- Youngstow-area author Nancy Christie will conduct a seminar based on her book, "The Gifts of Change" at 7 p.m. Thursday at A Touch of Serenity, 5000 East 345 St. A book-signing will follow. For more information, call the store at (440) 951-9452.
Canton writers group
CANTON -- The Greater Canton Writers Guild will hold it's regular monthly meeting Friday at the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame, 1414 Market Avenue N. A critique session will start at 6:30 p. m., with the regular session to follow at 7:30 p. m. The public is invited.
Speaker will be Dan MacIntyre on "Putting Your Dreams to Work: Recycling Creative Thought." His presentation will provide insights on tapping the creative power of dreams.
MacIntyre is a member of the Guild, as well as a former president. A retired corporate marketing executive for PGP Industries, he and wife Louise now operate a small sheep farm in Paris, Ohio.

Roth wins PEN award
NEW YORK -- Philip Roth, whose many novels include "Portnoy's Complaint" and "The Plot Against America," has received the PEN/Nabokov Award for lifetime achievement, a prize worth $20,000.
Other winners announced Monday by the American chapter of PEN, the international literary organization, included:Linda Gregg, who received the PEN/Voelcker Award for poetry, and Adrienne Kennedy and Stephen Adly Guirgis, winners of the PEN/Laura Pels Foundation Awards for Drama.
