Horse racing enthusiast watches from Iraq

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Marine Cpl. Daniel Foye is serving his second tour in Iraq, yet he still cheered for his favorite horse in the Kentucky Derby.
Through a satellite video link, Foye was able to say a quick hello to his parents Saturday and wave his Sweetnorthernsaint sign for the crowd of 157,536.
"We're going to make a [$10] bet for him," said his mother, Janet Foye, of Lawrenceburg, Ky.
Foye didn't collect, though, because the colt finished seventh.
The 29-year-old Marine was one of five Kentucky service members at Al Asad Air Force Base who appeared on two large screens in the winner's circle at Churchill Downs. The conference was arranged by the Freedom Calls Foundation.
Janet Foye said her son picked his horse this week after a heated phone discussion with his father David, a fellow racing enthusiast.
Also on the big-screen were First Sgt. Ivory Hallmon and Pfc. Bryan Dewey, both of Radcliff, Ky., and Lance Cpl. Joshua Barker of Danville, Ky.
