HELPING HANDS Volunteering Volunteer Services Agency, a United Way Agency, is a local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages. It sponsors three programs:
SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
MS Society Walk: Held at Canfield Fairgrounds from 1-4 p.m. May 19 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20. Help will be needed to set up, check in participants, prepare lunch, parking and traffic and cleanup.
Junior Achievement: Fundraiser Bowl-a-Thon will be Tuesday at Camelot Lanes. Volunteers are needed to assist.
Children's Museum of the Valley: "Me and My Mom" day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 13. Help is needed for this function.
Alzheimer's Association Spring Gala: May 19 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center. Help is needed for registration and the silent auction.
Warrior's Inc.: "Unity in the Community Parade," May 13. Assistance is needed to promote and prepare for the parade.
Animal Charity: Someone is needed for about two weeks for filing and reorganizing files.
Green Team: Household Hazardous Waste Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13 at Canfield Fairgrounds. People are needed to distribute literature.
LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
ITT Technical Institute: Tutors are wanted for young adult students in a small group setting. Instructors would be working with algebra, composition, economics and physics for two-hour sessions.
Carrington South Health Care Center: There are many ways to help such as providing pet visits, music leader, Bingo helper, outing partner or craft leader.
Easter Seals Center: Volunteers are needed to be mailers, group helpers or to handle the donated goods.
Foster Grandparents Program: Volunteers are needed for office duties in the mornings.
American Red Cross: There are a variety of jobs such as armed forces emergency services, baby-sitter instructor, program coordinator or maintenance and supplies.
Citizens Corps: Citizens are needed who are interested in assisting their community when there is an emergency or a disaster. Training is provided but not required.
Volunteer Services to Seniors: Compassionate people are needed to assist senior citizens with grocery shopping, friendly visits, trips to the doctor or reassurance calls. A volunteer will be assigned one client and will provide whatever help they can.
