Fighter's move leads to concussion for Marzullo
The news director said the weather forecaster is resting at home.
YOUNGSTOWN -- WFMJ-TV21 weather forecaster Frank Marzullo received a concussion Friday morning when he fell to the floor after being put in a choke hold by mixed martial arts fighter Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
Butterbean and Marzullo were taping a segment at the WFMJ studios downtown when the mishap occurred, said Mona Alexander, news director of WFMJ.
The 5-foot-11, 365-pound fighter was in town to fight in tonight's Fightfest at Chevrolet Centre.
The massive Butterbean was demonstrating the hold on Marzullo and picked up the slight broadcaster from behind. When Butterbean released his grip, Marzullo collapsed to the ground and hit his head on the floor.
After the accident, Marzullo was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center where he was treated and released. He was at home resting Friday afternoon, according to Alexander, who was uncertain when Marzullo would return to the air.
In Fightfest, fighters combine several fighting styles, including boxing, kick-boxing and jujitsu. The bouts are held in an octagonal cage.
The rock band Tantric is scheduled to perform at the start of today's 8 p.m. show.
