Couple face charges in fracas at bingo
The couple's daughter said they'll contact internal affairs.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 340-pound Austintown man is accused of body-slamming a police officer after a bingo game altercation at The Aristocrat on Francisca Avenue.
Weyman Jackson Sr., 62, of Spring Meadow Circle was arraigned Friday in municipal court on charges of assault and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $2,500.
His wife, Shirley, 57, was released on her own recognizance on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
The Jacksons will be back in court May 10.
The couple's daughter called the police version of what happened bogus and said her parents' lawyer advised them to contact the police Internal Affairs Division.
Police report
Patrolman Dan Mikus, working security at the bingo game, said in his report that the Jacksons, who had an altercation with another bingo player, were yelling and swearing at the woman in charge of the game and disrupting the hall. Some bingo players said they would not return, out of fear of Weyman Jackson, the officer wrote.
Mikus said he asked the Jacksons to leave, and they responded with racial remarks toward him. Mikus is white, the Jacksons are black.
The officer called for backup.
Outside, two officers directed Weyman Jackson away from the hall. Jackson, who weighs 340 pounds, sidestepped the officers and body-slammed Mikus, reports show.
Mikus said he pushed Jackson off "at which time he took both arms and with his massive frame, pushed me hard backward." Jackson's wife then jumped on Mikus' back and then struggled to resist arrest, police said.
