Canfield slips past Perry, 3-1; Springfield pounds United
Howland and Badger posted league victories.
STOW -- Tricia Bettura scattered six hits Friday as the state-ranked Canfield High softball team defeated Massillon Perry, 3-1, in the Barney Ellis Tournament.
Jenna Ervin's lead-off triple sparked Canfield's three-run fifth inning. Bryanne Halfhill singled to score Ervin with the tying run.
Ervin, Halfhill and Lauren Sulich each had two hits for the Cardinals (15-1).
Today, Canfield plays Akron Springfield at 1:30 p.m. and Stow at 3:30 p.m. Both games are at Stow High.

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Krista Snyder pitched a seven-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk for Springfield (16-6). Snyder improved to a 14-1 record and also contributed a double, single and one RBI.
The Tigers smacked 17 hits led by Chelsea Quimby with three singles and three RBIs, while Christy Warren had a double, two singles and one RBI and Samantha Cavalier two singles and one RBI.
Rebecca Evan added two doubles and one single and Breanne Mincher two singles.
For United (13-8), Brooke McCartney slammed a double and single and Carissa Heuer two singles.
Howland 12,Campbell 0
HOWLAND -- Abby Nicholas pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks for Howland (19-5).
Nicholas was backed by Desiree Sibera with a double, single and two RBIs and Rachel Bixler and Tiffany Jaques each with two RBIs while Jackie Hill added a double and single.
Southeast 5,Rootstown 0
RAVENNA -- Megan Wain homered to support Shannon Hamilton's complete-game three-hitter for Southeast.
Jen Gahagan doubled for the Pirates (9-12). Hamilton improved to 5-3.
Rootstown is 9-11.
Badger 16,Bloomfield 2
NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- Badger unleashed a 19-hit attack and scored six runs in the first and fourth innings an four runs in the third to roll past Bloomfield in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game. Bloomfield is 1-13, 0-11.
Oak Glen 6,Southern 1
NEW CUMBERLAND, W. Va. -- Indians pitcher Hannah Crews only allowed three hits as eight errors proved costly.
Brie Crum had Southern's hit and Emily Ramsey scored the run.
For Oak Glen, Chelsea Cline, Kristern Pryor and Chelsea Shenten had singles.

CARROLLTON -- Chelsea Sheets hit three home runs and Ally Lowdermilk tossed a no-hitter in a Division II sectional tournament game.
Lowdermilk added two hits for the Warriors (17-6), including a double. Samantha Bond had three hits, while Catelynn Johnson and Kristen Richards had two apiece.
Beaver Local is 15-12.
