Tribe pounds Athletics, 14-3
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Casey Blake hit a three-run homer in a nine-run seventh inning and Travis Hafner had four RBIs to lead the Cleveland Indians over Oakland 14-3 Wednesday night and end the Athletics' winning streak at five games.
Paul Byrd (4-2) pitched seven innings to beat Oakland for the first time in his career after going 0-4 in seven previous starts against the A's.
Hafner hit a two-run homer, Jason Michaels went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and rookie Kelly Shoppach hit a two-run single in the seventh for his first career RBIs. Jhonny Peralta had three hits for the Indians, who stretched out the top of the seventh for roughly 40 minutes.
Bobby Crosby hit a full-count, two-run homer in the third to pull the A's to 4-3, his fourth of the season and second in as many days.
Frank Thomas hit a sacrifice fly and Mark Kotsay had two hits and scored a run for the A's.
Dan Haren (1-3) lasted 5 2/3 innings, struggling after coming off his first win of the season last Friday at Kansas City in which he threw a season-high 116 pitches in eight innings.
