AUSTINTOWN -- Evan Merten and Alex Martinelli each had a three-run homer for North Canton Hoover (16-4, 8-2 Federal League). Joe Koch, Joe Burnich, Dave Diyorio, Josh Folkwein and John Mock had one single apiece for Fitch (12-7, 3-5).
Salem 14, Chaney 1
SALEM -- Josh Dankovich pitched a five-inning one-hitter as Salem scored in every inning. Bryan Wright had two hits including a home run, while Ben Miller and Tim Colian each added a pair of doubles for the Quakers (11-12). Joe Balog had the only hit for Chaney (1-18).
Field 6, Southeast 5
RAVENNA -- Field pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Southeast. Clay Casmento pitched the win and improved to 4-2 for Field (12-5). Greg Lemley homered while Andy Harman had two hits for Southeast (6-16).
Lakeview 11, Liberty 10
CORTLAND -- Liberty scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an 8-3 lead, but Lakeview answered with six in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-8. Both teams scored two runs in the fifth to keep it a one-run game. Justin Williams came on in the fifth for the Bulldogs to earn the win. Steve Miller went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored for Lakeview (10-10, 8-4 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Eric Pirtz hit a home run and triple, and drove in three runs, while Josh Daniels doubled twice and singled. The Leopards were led by Jeremy Hume (3-for-5 with a double), Jon Krause (2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs) and Joel Buckley (2-for-4 with two RBIs).
SOFTBALL
Fitch 5, Jackson 3
MASSILLON -- Fitch led 5-1 in the sixth inning and withstood a Jackson rally for a Federal League win. The Falcons (2-6 FL) were led by pitcher Kara Warren, who struck out 10 and also hit a double. Kate Ferree and Brittany Ellis also hit doubles for Fitch. Ellis also had two RBIs. Jackson fell to 6-2 in the Federal League.
Poland 8, Howland 7
POLAND -- Amanda Gittings had three doubles and three RBIs while Allie Patton had two doubles and one RBI, as Poland smacked nine doubles in all and scored a single run in the 10th to snap a 7-7 tie. Ciera Urichich and Jenna Medina each added a double and single for Poland. For Howland, Carly Sabat had two singles and one RBI while Desiree Sibera had two singles and two RBIs and Gina Pahoulis two singles one RBI. Jackie Hill and Rachel Bixler each chipped in with two singles for the Tigers.
Springfield 5, Mineral Ridge 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Senior Ashley Fagnano had a single and double and an RBI to spark the Tigers who clinched at least a share of the Inter-County League championship with a 12-0 record. Senior Krista Snyder had a single and double, junior Kahley Colaluca had two singles and senior Courtney Sheely had an RBI double for the Tigers (15-6). Snyder struck out eight in a five-hitter. Mineral Ridge is 6-14 overall and 6-7 in the ICL.
Champion 10, Brookfield 0
CHAMPION -- Kasey Karr struck out 12 in a five-inning no-hitter in which two Brookfield batters reached base on errors and another by a walk. Karr, Jaclyn Carpenter, Hillary Beachy and Ashley Rable had two hits apiece, while Cara Popadak tripled for Champion (13-5, 9-3 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Mathews 4, Maplewood 0
VIENNA -- Caitlyn Youngs had eight strikeouts and walked three in pitching a two-hitter as the junior picked up her 12th win in 13 games. Youngs had a double and one single and Laura Wise, a senior, had two singles for Mathews (18-3, 12-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference). Markie Pozzuto had six strikeouts and no walks for Maplewood (9-2 NAC).
Southington 15, Bloomfield 4
BLOOMFIELD -- Southington had 14 hits and scored seven runs in the sixth inning to roll to victory over Bloomfield in a NAC game. Bloomfield is 1-13, 0-11.
