Gonda's 2-hitter leads way



Youngstown Christian rolled to a 13-0 Div. IV win over Lordstown.
STRUTHERS -- Ed Gonda (2-5) fired a two-hitter with five strikeouts and Youngstown Christian scored six runs in the third inning to defeat Lordstown 13-0 in a Division IV sectional baseball tournament game at Cene Park Thursday.
Aaron Tate hit three singles and scored twice, while Stephen Setnick and Gonda each hit two singles for the Eagles.
Also in the third inning, Lordstown loaded the bases with two outs. Ben Gibson hit a liner for a triple, but Nate Rech was called out for missing second base and the runs were nullified.
Youngstown Christian will travel to McDonald for a sectional final next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Mineral Ridge 2, Jackson-Milton 0
NORTH JACKSON -- The Rams managed only one hit, but took a 1-0 lead in the first for the only run they really needed.
Winning pitcher Josh Garland (5-3) walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a fielder's choice. Garland struck out 11 batters.
Bart McGee and Mike Nagy hit a double and single apiece for the Bluejays.
Mineral Ridge will play the winner of the Windham-Mathews game next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Western Reserve 8, Leetonia 7,(9 innings)
LEETONIA -- Brandon Moherman went 3-for-5 and scored the winning run for the Blue Devils (11-11).
Moherman led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, stole second and scored when Dave Snowden's sacrifice bunt was misfielded.
Jeff Zatchok and John Porterfield had two hits each for Western Reserve, which advanced to play Columbiana next Thursday. Ryan Lude doubled twice and Moherman had a two-bagger.
Pat Russell homered for Leetonia.
Sebring 12, Southern 1
SEBRING -- Jon Springer hit a triple and double and drove in six runs to pace Sebring in a Div. IV sectional game.
Matt Kerns pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks for the Trojans (8-12), who advanced to play Lowellville next Thursday at Sebring.
Zach Tieche added two singles for Sebring.
