Cops find 84 marijuana plants in house
EAST PALESTINE -- Columbiana County's Drug Task Force director said an arrest is expected after marijuana plants were found growing in a rental house here.
Brian McLaughlin said 84 plants were found in a house at 244 Park Ave. Some 13 plants were mature. Each mature plant can provide $1,000 worth of marijuana.
A woman anonymously called a law enforcement agency around 2 p.m. Tuesday and said she was locked in the house's basement. Authorities could not find her in the house but instead found the plants.
The task force got a search warrant for the house around 4 p.m. Tuesday. McLaughlin said authorities also found a military training grenade that would produce a small explosion and a wire booby trap that would produce smoke. Neither was hooked up as a trap, but explosive experts were called in to remove them.
The call from the woman was traced to a cell phone, but McLaughlin said he had not been able to gather more information on her.
